Meardon, Sueppel & Downer P.L.C.’s labor and employment law practice is concentrated in two primary areas. First, the firm has extensive experience in public sector bargaining. Both William F. Sueppel and William J. Sueppel have represented many cities and towns throughout Iowa in reaching collective bargaining agreements with their employees. The public sector portion of the practice also includes representing cities and towns in labor disputes before the Public Employee Relations Board and Civil Service Commissions as well as in Court if necessary.

The second part of the labor and employment practice involves representing both private employers and employees in employment disputes. The firm has had substantial exposure to Civil Rights litigation in the Iowa Civil Rights Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as well as in both state and federal Courts.

In addition, the firm regularly counsels employers as to the requirements of state and federal law with respect to issues of hiring, promoting, disciplining and terminating employees. In this respect the firm is also fully capable of reviewing or creating employee handbooks that will assist employers in making informed and legal employment decisions.
